Overjet (teeth too far forward)
Causes: Genetics, habits such as thumb sucking, previous dental treatment
Treatments: Invisalign, braces and less frequently porcelain veneers, composite bonding or jaw surgery.
If you feel that your teeth come out too far forward, you are probably experiencing increase in the 'overset' of your teeth. Correcting or improving this can significantly improve your smile; by correcting the position of the front teeth we can make them look less prominent and allow them to fit seamlessly into your smile. This has its health benefits too, as living with an increased overjet can lead to higher risk of injury to your front teeth.
The treatment of choice is usually Invisalign or braces, but in some rare cases, jaw surgery may be needed to fully correct the bite.
Porcelain veneers and composite bonding can also be used to help "camouflage" the overjet, and can give a partial improvement, but this comes at the expense of having to shape your teeth as a part of the treatment.
